Course Description

The 6th Grade Science course is designed to teach your child, my students, the fundamental basics of science concepts such as matter and energy; motion, force and energy; earth and space as well as earth’s structure; earth and space to include our solar system and exploration; and organisms and environments as our core subjects. At the end of the year, students will be expected to take and master the Bench Mark Testing for 6th grade as well as be prepared for the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness or STAAR for 7th Grade. In order to be successful students must show competency with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills or TEKS.  This will require mutual efforts on behalf of the student, the parent/guardian, and me as their teacher.

  1. Come in grab your book, paper, pencil, take your seat and answer the warm up posted on the board
  2. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak. NO TALKING without permission
  3. DO NOT get out of your chair unless given permission

You will not be allowed to leave the classroom without your ID and a pass from the teacher.  Remember that the bell doesn’t dismiss class, THE TEACHER DISMISSES CLASS. Make sure that you record all important due dates in your agenda, put away your materials, clean up and throw away any trash, tuck in your chair, and leave the room in an orderly fashion.

Participation

Participation is a necessary part of every lesson.  Many of the laboratory investigations, media presentations, and other assignments are very difficult to make up if classed is missed. For this reason, it is very important that students are present in class on a daily basis.

Makeup Work & Homework

All assignments are important and each student is responsible for all work assigned even if the student is absent.  It is the student’s responsibility to obtain all assignment(s) from their make-up work folder before class, after class, or after school.  Due dates for makeup work that involve excused absents is three (3) days from last day you were absent. All homework is assigned Monday and Due by Friday of the same week. Homework will be given in this course with specific due dates. Students will be required to take work home which is not finished within the normal class period to remain current on assignments. Failure to submit work on time will result in a loss of 30 points for work submitted 2 weeks late and 50 points for work submitted later than 2 weeks. The student is to see me so that we may talk and agree upon the due date. Once work is considered late, it is in the best interest of the student to make every effort to do the work, do it well and get the best grade possible.
