Have a Good Summer Dragons (Class of 2021)!!
Good Luck in High School
Hi! My name is Cindy Beverley. I teach 8th grade Science. I am happy to say that my entire teaching career (this is my 22nd year) has been in Southwest I.S.D. I have been teaching at Scobee since it opened. I absolutely love this district. Throughout the years, I have had the pleasure of teaching numerous siblings from specific families. I consider the people of Southwest to be my second family. My first family includes my husband and my two daughters. I graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a B.S. in Wildlife Biology with a minor in Chemistry. In addition, I have numerous graduate hours from UTSA in Environmental Science. I also have my Masters degree in Teacher Leadership from Lamar University. I look forward to a very exciting year!

Science Course Syllabus 2016-2017
Mrs. Beverley Room 105
This Science class introduces the fundamental concepts of scientific inquiry, the structure of matter, chemical reactions, forces, motion, ecosystems, earth science, space, and the interactions between energy and matter. The course will serve students as a laboratory-based introduction to possible future course work in high school, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics while ensuring a mastery of the basics of each discipline. The ultimate goal of the course is to produce scientifically literate citizens capable of using their knowledge of science to solve real-world problems and to make personal, social, and ethical decisions.
Grades are calculated as follows:
Daily Work 60%
(To include: daily assignments, warm-ups, homework, class participation, labs, and other activities related to the content area)
(To include: exams, benchmark assessments, quizzes, projects, and other acceptable assessment assignments)
Please bring all needed supplies to class. Enter the classroom quietly and sit at your assigned seat. Begin working on the warm-up activity. Participate in all activities and use your time efficiently. When dismissed by the teacher, make sure that you turn in all completed assignments, put away your materials, clean up and throw away any trash, push in your chair, and leave the room in an orderly fashion.
Participation is a necessary part of every lesson. Many of the laboratory investigations, media presentations, and other assignments are very difficult to make up if class is missed. For this reason, it is very important that students are present in class on a daily basis.
Makeup Work/Late Work
All assignments are important and each student is responsible for all work assigned even if the student is absent. Late work will be accepted with 2 points deducted per day after the assignment is due. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain all assignment(s) from the teacher before class, after class, or after school.
The following supplies/materials are needed for this class.
· 1 composition notebook (to be kept in the classroom).
· 1 roll of papertowels (to be kept in the classroom).
· Pencils needed every day
Tutoring will be offered after school. Please check with me in advance to make sure I do not have any meetings that day. In order to attend tutoring, students will need to make arrangements with their parent for pick up.
The completion of homework is important to further the student’s understanding of the current topic of instruction. Homework will be assigned on the first day of the week and will be due on Thursday of the same week.
Scobee Middle School strongly believes in ethical behavior, therefore academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Academic dishonesty includes copying another person’s work, cheating, or turning in someone else’s work as your own. Consequences for committing an act of academic dishonesty will result in a zero for that assignment and parent notification.
All students are to comply with SWISD rules and regulations regarding the use of technology as outlined in the Student Handbook.
All students will be required to participate in the Scobee Science Fair. Students and parents will be provided information regarding the science fair.
