 Welcome to 6th grade Social Studies. My name is William Walden and I will be your child’s Social Studies teacher this year. I graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio. This is my 4th year of teaching at McAuliffe Middle School. I’m looking forward to partnering with you to ensure your son/daughter has a successful year. Below I have provided information referencing the classroom expectations and consequences, grading system, tardiness, supplies, homework and my contact information. Again, I’m looking forward to working with you to provide your child a successful year of learning.

What is this class about?

In this class we tour the world.  We study the physical geography, the history, the culture, and ways of life of many different parts of the world.

Grading System

  1. Quizzes/Daily assignments – 60 %
  2. Tests/ Major Projects – 40%

       Tardies will be marked in the gradebook along with absences.  Proper procedures will be taken when tardies and absences accumulate.

In order for students to perform well and to be engaged in class they must come prepared!  All students must come to class each day prepared to learn, participate, and perform group or individual Social Studies activities.  Below is a list of required supplies to ensure that your child is engaged and prepared for class each and every day.


  • Composition Notebook
  • Pencil or pen - must have a pen or pencil everyday Students need to plan their time wisely so that assignments are ready to be turned in on due dates. Late work is accepted, however, students are expected to get missing assignments or late work information outside of the regular lesson time (not to interfere with regular classroom lessons).If you have any questions or wish to speak to me, you can reach me by e-mail at or call me at (210) 623-6260. I’m available for conference during 2nd period.Tutoring can be scheduled upon request. I coach cross country, basketball, and tennis but will make time either during lunch, before school, after practices, or on a day when I do not have practice - usually Fridays. The student just needs to see me to make arrangements.
