Tutoring: I am available for tutoring every Tuesday from 3:00-4:00 or upon request from students. Students are encouraged to come to tutoring if there is a concept they are having difficulty with.
Course Description: The English Language Arts and Reading Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) are organized into the following strands: Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking. In sixth grade, students will engage in activities that build on their prior knowledge and skills in order to strengthen their reading, writing, and oral language skills. Students will read and write on a daily basis. Students will read and write on daily basis utilizing Springboard as our Curriculum.
Gradebook will calculate grades according to district policy as follows:
60% is Daily Work or Daily Coursework:
Which may include but is not limited to daily assignments, journals, homework,class participation, and other activities related to the content area.
40% is Assessment of Performance:
Which may include, but is not limited to exams, teacher made tests, benchmark assessments, quizzes, interval projects, and other acceptable tests, assessment assignments.
Plagiarism is defined as “the use of any other person’s work as one’s own and the unacknowledged use of that work in one’s own work.” All work must be the student’s own work. Any plagiarized work will result in a grade of zero along with a parent-teacher-administrator conference.
A student will be responsible for obtaining and completing the make-up work in a satisfactory manner and within the time specified by the district policy. Student should check the calendar for the assignments.
Missing Work/Late Work:
Assignments given in this class are not optional. Assignments will be written on the board and will also be given orally. If you do not do the assignment you will receive a zero for the assignment, until the assignment is turned in. Late work will be accepted at 10 points off per day.

As a welcome gift to 6th grade, Mrs. Tijerina will give you a folder to start the week. The following items are needed to make the school year successful. Any of the following items that you can donate to our classroom will be greatly appreciated.
- 2 Pkg Wide Ruled Notebook Paper
- 1 Pkg Post-It Notes
- 1 Pencil Sharpener
- 2 Pkg Pencils
- 1 Box of Kleenex or 1 Pkg of Baby Wipes
- 1 Dry Erase Marker
- 1 Pkg of Scotch Tape
- 1 Pkg of Erasers
- 2 Composition Books
