Meet Mrs. Montes
In my previous fifteen years at Sun Valley, I have been known as "Ms. V,." but this summer I married an amazing man and am starting the next chapter of my life as Mrs. Montes! Let's see how long it takes me to answer to my new name! I have lived all my life in Texas, and for the last twenty-three years have called San Antonio home. My son AJ is serving in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman and my son Logan is in seventh grade this year. I graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2000 with my specialization in Early Childhood Education. This is my fifteenth year teaching, my fifteenth year teaching at Sun Valley, and my fourth year to teach Pre-Kindergarten. I have taught Kindergarten for ten years and First Grade for two, and I am enjoying my new adventure in Pre-K. It helps to be beginning with the end in mind by knowing where your child needs to be in Kinder and First Grade; together we will ensure that your child will be successful! I have enjoyed getting to know the Sun Valley families and watching my students progress through the years. I can't believe that my first students recently graduated high school!
I taught Kindergarten, First Grade, and now Pre-K because I believe that all students need a strong foundation to succeed in school, and in life, and to do this, I believe it is vital to instill in them a love of learning at an early age. By keeping our lessons interesting, hands-on and fun, together with lots of interesting books and experiences, as well as providing lots of opportunities for success and lots of praise and encouragement, they will development a love of learning and confidence in their own abilities. In Pre-K, young children make the transition to responsible, self-motivated learners who can do more for themselves than ever before! I encourage them to do their best, not to be afraid to make mistakes, and never give up! I know that you are your child's first and best teacher, and together we will give your child a wonderful start on his/her road to learning that will last a lifetime!
